Doorway to Darkness:The First Story of Kes Allyntahl
"They are everywhere, those creatures."
--August Derleth, The House on Curwen Street
"It was over his shoulder, and indistinctly, that he first a face: a little evil wedged-shaped face, looking at him from a hole. When he turned around and confronted it, the thing had vanished."
--Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
On Narrak Island, which was the most northernmost of the Orrim Archipelago, lived a Gerdin. She was a small, very slender woman, about four feet in height, with a delicate brown face, golden feline eyes, and long silvery-white hair.

Sometimes you may have really horrible days descending without any hint of warning. You wake up with a strong sense of foreboding; and you know that things will turn sour the moment you step outside. And yet on other days, everything seems to be going great until a sinkhole suddenly opens up while you were rollerblading or an elfin air ship crash-lands into your backyard, taking out your tree house.
As was typically the case, this particular descent into the abyss started out as a pretty decent day. I had just turned 14 that July and had also hit a growth spurt, going from a measly 4'8 to a petite 5'3". Next fall was high school where hopefully I won't get dumped in the special self-esteem class for sufferers of
The House on the MoonThere's a strange stillness to the air, an emptiness. Not like a vacuum, just a deadness. There's no tearing at my lungs, just a hollow, unsatisfied feeling. The House on the Moon by Erin-Cobra
I could probably breathe perfectly well, but I try not to. Whatever's wrong with the air up here, it can't be good to let so much emptiness inside you.
The house is perfect, like a butterfly under glass. No wind, no rain, nothing to weather or wear its façade, except for the sunlight. Burnt-white, like everything else in this desolate land. All pretty wooden walls, more like a beach-hut than anything else. How many miles to the sea? I look up. The sky looks milky around the horizon, but above my head is the truth, where mauve and indigo boil away to black, and the stars burn brighter than I could ever have believed.
Footprints dance through the dust - powdered pearls, silky-fine. Heavy boots - how dull, to have to wear those cumbersome suits. I wind my trainer-prints around them. The boots are zigzagged across with tread
CobwebsA soft creak echoes throughout the hall, and a single brown eye, muddy as the bottom of a dredged lake, blinks open. Wood older than three generations’ of children groans, and there is a soft rustling as the owner of the eye rises, as a savior would from the brink of death.Cobwebs by CrazyPoetryMonarch
Water drips somewhere, and the owner of the eye smiles.
“We have a guest, I think.” They smile, gingerly dusting their clothes wrapped tightly around them in a cascade of faded colors that still contain a sense of long-held dignity.
Her name is Alice, just Alice, and she is wondering why she decided to enter this house. It doesn’t seem like a house she’d enjoy staying in, not in any shape or form, but it isn’t as thoroughly unpleasant as it could be. The paint is chipping a tad on the outside, but the hedges are neatly pruned. The furniture inside the house reminds her of her mother’s, and her mother had a fondness for the sort of antiques that were shoved to the grimy corne
